faCetalk Online Video Date Plugin v1.0 Beta Released!

Hello All:

I am pleased to announce the release of our flagship product for use with the osDate platform. Thanks to Vijay Nair for his excellent feedback and help in making this possible.

faCetalk Online is a web component that plugs right into osDate using the excellent Plugin mechanism that is part of this dating platform.

faCetalk Online provides a way to schedule a "first date" between users who have gotten to know each other through the osDate messaging system. It is a next step to be taken before a real face-to-face date.

How does faCetalk Online differ from an instant messaging or video chat component?

faCetalk Online is different in that it is meant for people who are managing their time. It is for people that don't want to wait around to see who's online, pinging them or being pinged by them. It is for scheduled online, video
communication. Users have 30 minutes for an online date.

Adding this plugin to your site will bring users back to your site time after time. We want osDate sites to be successful and that will make us successful.

The instructions for installing a plugin can be found on this forum. If anyone knows of a good step by step guide for installing plugins, please post a reply to this thread.

Once you download the faceTalkOnline.zip plugin package, just cd to your plugins directory and unarchive it right there. It will create the plugin subdirectory faceTalkOnline right there and unpack all files underneath. Then, view the README.txt file. It will tell you specifically how to setup the faceTalkOnline plugin.

Please reply to this thread with your comments, feedback, installation and support questions. I will answer everyone here so that all users get the benefit of the information exchange.

Note that if you want to try out faCetalk Online as integrated into osDate
before you install it on your site, then please go to http://beta.cameyeo.com/osdate/index.php. This is where we have osDate integrated with the faCetalk Online plugin. It is where we tested before we released this version. Please send a request for your test users to be upgraded to a "Gold" member to support@cameyeo.com. I will then email you back when done and you will be able to take faCetalk Online for a test drive.

Do you provide the video hosting? If so, is there a cost? It says it's free to integrate - are there any costs that we (or users) will incur?

I have the video plugins for FlashChat but finding an inexpensive hosting solution for Red5 or Flash Media Server has been difficult. That's my preferred solution if I can find a cheap hosting provider, but this might be a reasonable alternative depending on the costs.

We incur the cost for the Flash Media Server hosting. Dating sites are not responsible for that cost. Our faCetalk Online widget is completely free and will remain that way, although the free version will eventually have ads around it.

We will also have a monthly charge for a no-ad version. The no-ad version and the free version with the ads are somewhere down the road.

For now, you can enjoy a no-ad, free version. If you would like to try
the demo out, just go to http://beta.cameyeo.com/osdate/index.php, sign up as a member and have your other tester sign up. I will make you both a Gold member and you can see how this works for you.

Note:

There is a problem with using our service if the web browser is blocking cookies from
www.cameyeo.com. A new software update will go out shortly which contains easy help to ensure users don't run into this problem. For now, and in IE for example, go to Tools/Internet Options/Privacy Tab/Site button and ensure that www.cameyeo.com allows cookies. Restart browser after making config. change.

Any browser will have the same problem. Firefox also has a way to allow cookies from www.cameyeo.com.

You also will need to do so for Safari or Chrome, if you use one of those. We do not support Opera at this time.

We have created a fix for the cookies acceptance problem noted above. The fix is to provide an immediate help link for users BEFORE they attempt scheduling a date. This help file tells the users how to reset their browser to allow cookies from www.cameyeo.com.

In addition, we also have made some formatting changes, based on work done by Linus Akesson. Thanks Linus for providing these changes.

Linus made changes so that both the standard blue template and his customized template worked. I tested his work out on our beta site. The expectation is that our update .tpl files work without changes for your customizations.

This update is meant to overwrite your existing files, so unpack with unzip when in the plugins directory (See WARNING below before you do this.)

NEW CUSTOMERS: You must install the base faCetalk Online product first. This is an update....not a full installation.

WARNING: If you've done any customizations to your .tpl
or the lang_english/lang_main.php, then you must not simply unpack this update or else you will lose those customizations. Instead unpack the Update in a separate directory to reapply your custom changes. Then replace your existing files.

Version 1.2 for osDate 2.1.3 is the older version of our plugin. Please see the Commercial Announcements section at the top of this forum where we have just released Version 1.3 for osDate 2.5.
