I like to easely add personnal smileys and keep out some others, so wy not add an option in the config.php like for language or perhaps a specific file named smiley.php ?

hi,

You can currently disable any smilie in config.php by setting the corresponding variable to 'false'.

Adding smilies isn't too hard, but it requires that you own the Flash dev. environment. In a later release of flashChat, I may add some form of external XML configuration file to more easily add/remove customer .swf files as smilies. Still trying to determine the best way to accomplish this, however.

best,
Darren

hi,
i just purchased this over the weekend. it's working pretty well with my invision board so far. we do have a large selection of cute smilies and i would love to be able to include part of it in the chatroom.

looking forward to the feature of customising the smilies list!

Is it possible to get the fla file for the smilies in order to add them?

hi,

Yes, I'll be releasing the smilies.fla file with all of the other source code in just a couple of days.

thanks,
Darren

The external XML file for smilies would be awesome. Even if you had to limit it to the number that already exists, as long as we had the option to swap out ones we don't use for ones we want, that would be great. I'm currently working on customizing mine in Flash, but something like that would be much easier.

hi,

Very soon (probably 2 - 3 weeks), a new feature will be added which will allow you to use external .jpg images as smilies, in addition to the current (pre-defined) smilies.

thanks,
Darren

gif, png, and jpg support would be best ;) no need to limit it to one format.

hi guys,

I regret to tell you this, but this feature (addition of JPG images to the chat) has been tabled for now... it might not be implemented for several more months.

Sorry for any inconvenience this causes anyone...

Why can't you make FlashChat read the smileys from external files? I don;t undestand why they have to be embedded in a flash file :?

I have a big collection of smileys in my current chat program ( http://phpmychat.sourceforge.net ), of various sizes. I just put the animated gif in a directory and add a line in a include file. Then you click an icon and all the smileys open in a new window and you click on them and their name appears in the input text area.
