Folks,
I am really pissed off.. My account just got suspendeded for over using resources. I have read some post and most people are having issues with over usages of resources. However, it seems like the developers are totally ignoring the problem.. Please please fix this damn problem.. weather its a SocketServer or whatever, whoever designed this chat should know what to do..
Thanks

Don't use that language in this Forum !!
Why do you blame FlashChat for over using resources :D
blame your hosting company for setting the user resources very very low
I remember when I tested your chat some weeks ago that a single /backtime made the resources terminated
when I was the only one in chat too :D
Find out what are the resource limits at your hosting
as many many FlashChat users don't have any resource probelms with shared hostings
and look also at your other applications at your site how they add up resources
Finally how many users are there on average per hour in your chat ?

I know there was a problem with my previous host, so moved to a new server, its a shared plan (with Lunarpages.com) but much better than my previous host. I usually have 10~15 users chatting, I do not think that is too much.. If the chat server can't handle 10~15 users at a time, then its a bad design.

If your chat can't handle 10 to 15 people then your hosts server is very busy.

There are some more reductions in server CPU usage in the next FlashChat version 4.5.3
mainly for users having FlashChat integrated with a CMS/Forum system
Current version of FlashChat is for some CMS/Forum systems not very optimized
but in 4.5.3 all CMS/Forum integrations including Free-For-All and Registration usage
will be equally loading the server ie a reduction in server resources

I have to say, that I'm also having problems with flashchat and resource usage.
For the 2nd week in a row the shared hosting server (perfecthosting.co.uk) has crashed twice as a result of flashchat. The 1st week they restored things and everything was back to normal, this week I was suspended (not impressed).
I have anything between 15 & 30 users in the chatroom between 4pm & 9pm and it has crashed twice after 2 hours of use.
It was set at a 3 second refresh rate, to which I change to a 5 second refresh, inactive users from 15 seconds to 30 seconds.
I have therefore contacted my webhost, who has supplied the following in an email back to myself.
> Our server can obviously handle a lot more than what you're suggesting your site was generating so I'm not sure what to say other than when your site alone was suspended all went back to normal, I guess maybe your chat room uses a not so friendly (for the server) script!

> Sorry about not getting back to you last week about the refresh rate change, I hadn't realised you where expecting a reply, my thought was this would help.

> choice but to turn it off permanently.
I have flashcat intergrated into a CMS (mambo) - any help, advice would be most welcome (so far he has not commented on whether sockets are supported by them, so I asked him a little more directly).

OK you will be seeing reduced server load with FlashChat 4.5.3 :D
when used in refreshing mode ie not in socket server mode
I don't have Mambo installed
but other CMS systems use a lot of overhead together with FlashChat
as you can see from my post here:
http://www.tufat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=56108&postcount=1
In some cases the included CMS scripts from the FlashChat CMS class
open the database and do accesses which happens each 3rd second for every user :D
Looking at the FlashChat Mambo CMS script
I can imagine that a lot of code is executed
which is not needed at all during chat operation
FlashChat version 4.5.3 will be released within 1 or 2 weeks now :D
