When I attempt to do a test while creating a report I get the following pop-up error:
Adobe Reader could not open 'pa035402.fdf' because it is not a supported file type or because the file has become corrupted...
I am using
WinXP Professional with Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 and Flash 7.
I checked file types via Windows Explorer and FDF is a recognized file type --> Adobe Acrobat Reader 6
Have you seen this problem?
What is the solution?
Thanks!

I fixed this.
I had installed Adobe 6 Professional on top of an old Adobe 5 installation.
Removing Adobe 5 first was the solution. All works well.
By the way, you only need the free Adobe 6 Reader (not the full software package)...this was just what was going on with my system.
Hope it is helpful to someone in the future.

hi,
Can you try this on a different computer? Often, re-installing Acrobat is not sufficient. Also, try installing a postscript printer driver on your computer, like Apple Color LaserWriter.

We had only one user of many who got this error also. Turns out inside Internet Explorer if you go to Tools - Internet Options - General Tab you click on the Settings button. Ensure that 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' is set to Automatically. The user who was getting the 'Cannot print filename.fdf' error had the setting 'Every visit to the page'. Once we switched that the problem disappeared.
Hope this helps.
I just had this problem today on a Windows 2000 SP4 workstation with Acrobat Reader 6.01 installed. It was received when trying to open a file passed by an internal web site and I got the pa009041.fdf could not open error. This same operation worked on another workstation with the same setup.
I think what is happening is a web site passes a file to adobe but I do not know what an .fdf format is. I still have to figure out that. I found the .fdf file in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME\Local Settings\temp. It was only 1kb - not big enough to be anything useful, so something is happening during the conversion process into a pdf document.
I did a Help, Detect and Repair in Acrobat Reader to re-install it, but that did not help. I had to uninstall Acrobat Reader, it asked me to reboot, and I did. Then I re-installed it and the problem was gone. If I figure out the technical reasons why, I will post it.

There is a pretty good thread on sourceforge.net explaining in technical detail how PDF documents are posted if that helps at all.

Thanks. I just visited Adobe's site and read that FDF is:
"Forms Data Format (FDF) -- FDF is a text file format specifically for data exported from PDF form fields. FDF files are significantly smaller than PDF files because they contain only form field data, not the entire form."
At least you'll know what an .fdf file is.
